20 ways Parenthood is just like college

As I was sorting through a pile of papers in our basement before we moved, I came across this funny article I had torn out of a magazine a few years before. Hope it adds a little humor to your day.

20 ways Parenthood Is Just Like College

1. You feel like you're constantly being tested
2. Someone's always smarter than you (or at least they think they are)
3. Your roommates are slobs and they steal your food
4. There's nothing in your bank account
5. All-nighters
6. You get kicked out of the library for leaving behind crumbs and creating a ruckus
7. Keg parties and parties at Chuck E. Cheese produce the same kind of hang-over
8. You never seem to be able to get the place to yourself
9. Naps
10. You hate your roomate's music and they hate yours
11. You can neither identify nor locate the source of that funky smell coming from your rommate's closet
12. Five in the morning is really really early-or really, really late- depending on whether or not you've been to bed yet.
13. People talk to you while you're in the shower
14. You're too exhausted to retain what you're reading
15. Oh, now you can identify that smell. You forgot to take that half-eaten sandwich out of the packback yesterday
16. You're wearing your college sweatshirt again-its the cleanest thing you could find
17. Someone always leaves a party crying
18. Hey! How about pizza? Again
19. You think you're the only one who feels clueless
20. It goes so fast.

Backyard fun and other tidbits

It didn't take Jacob more than a few days in the house to attempt to conquer the stairs. He made it all the way to the top without falling the first time. I came out of my room to find him three steps from the top. While I was getting ready the girls had come upstairs to get something and he decided to follow.

.

At least three times this week, I tiptoed out of Bella's room after putting her down from nap to find this scene in Jacob's room. Way to go, big sis! A couple of days I had tried to put Jacob down first to no avail. He loves his big sister and relaxes in her arms

The Little Black Dress

Disclaimer: This is a true story. Any similarities to actual people and events was intentional.

Once upon a time there was a young lady whose cousin was about to get married. This young lady happened to be at Target a few months before the wedding. As she walked down the aisle she heard something calling to her. She turned and saw a cute afordable little black dress. She contemplated whether or not to buy it. It would be a cute dress for the wedding but she was trying to drop 20 lbs by then. She decided to buy the dress. Afterall she could always buy another dress if she did miraculously lose weight. Later that day she stopped by her mom's house and excitedly described her new purchase to her mom.

A week later this same mother was in Target when she spotted another of these little black dresses. However, due to a combination of "old age forgetfulness" and her daughter's poor description it did not occur to her that this was the same dress her daughter had already purchased. "What a perfect dress to wear to my neice's wedding!" she thought as she tossed the dress in her cart and continued with her shopping.

Hundreds of miles away in the city of brotherly love another young lady headed out the door to Target. This young lady was the sister-in-law, and daughter-in-law of the before mentioned women. As she strolled through the store she too was drawn to the little black dress. What a perfect dress to wear to my husband's cousin's wedding she thought. However, she decided to purchase the dress on a different day and went on her way. Several weeks later the mother-in-law came to visit. "What would you like for your B-day?" she asked the second young lady. The young lady began to describe the dress she had seen at Target.

Fortunately, fate intervened and the three women realized they all intended on wearing the same dress BEFORE they showed up wearing the same dress looking like a bunch of silly cheesy relatives

I'm baaack!!

After a stressful few weeks, and a bunch of broken furniture, we have arrived and are just working on getting settled in now. If you need a referral for a moving company, DONT come to me. I wouldn't wish those movers on my worst enemies. But enough of that... We arrived Friday around lunch and drove around the town during the afternoon to get a little acclimated. The church is a few miles away which is wonderful after our 17 mile trek of late. Friday evening two families from the ward stopped by and invited us to get some icecream with them. I was a little embarrassed when they first arrived. It had been raining and my mom and the girls were sitting out on the porch watching the lightning for lack of anything better to do in a house without toys or furniture (besides my new beautiful kitchen table/chairs and one camp chair). Jared and I had just walked outside to talk to them. So there we all were standing out on the porch, me in my glasses, sloppy ponytail, and pj's, looking like the Beverly Hillbillies when they pulled up. Fortunately, they didn't turn and run as fast as they could. We had an enjoyable evening at Bobby's Custard. Saturday we went to Horseshoe Lake for a picnic and then to St. Louis. One of the streets was still flooded and you could still see signs of where the flood waters had reached. I guess I'm easily entertained cause I was fascinated with the flood.

Sunday we only made it to sacrament meeting-the movers called during closing song from our driveway. The ward has been wonderful. They surprised us with meals Sunday through Wednesday while I tried to unpack everything. Friday night I went with a bunch of ladies from the ward to see the movie "Mamma Mia". I highly recommend it!! Saturday morning we took a drive to see the St. Louis Temple. I printed off directions from mapquest and we entered the address into Maggie (our new GPS friend). When the directions were different we choose to follow Maggie completely overlooking the paragraph in red on the mapquest directions informing us that a freeway was closed through St.Louis- the freeway that Maggie tried to take us on. Two hours and a ton of turns later, we arrived at the temple.

Then it was onto Costco (there are only two Costcos in the area and both are on the other side of St. Louis. We ended the day at the ward picnic. Katy asked if we were going to the Primary picnic in Ohio as we loaded into the car. That would've been a long drive just for a picnic that was two days past! And that is our last few weeks in a nutshell. Here are some pictures from before we left Ohio.
